Here at Dental Partners of Vero Beach, dental crowns are an integral part of many of the restorative treatments we perform. This includes implants, root canals, or simply covering and strengthening a tooth that has been damaged by trauma or decay. Dental crowns restore your smile, preserve the integrity of your mouth’s structure, and help you maintain great oral health.

Restorations in Record Time With Same-Day Crowns

With traditional dental crowns, treatment is completed in multiple visits. During the first visit, after a tooth impression is taken, a dental lab makes the crown while the patient wears a temporary crown for a couple of weeks. The patient then returns for a second visit to have their crown put in place.

Office milled and fabricated same-day crowns, on the other hand, are completed in one visit. The CEREC technology utilizes an infrared camera that takes 3D images of your damaged tooth and sends these images directly to our CEREC machine. Your crown is milled inside the machine right here in our office, providing us with the ability to complete your procedure the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions About Same-Day Crowns

What is CEREC?

CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It’s a mouthful, so we just refer to it as CEREC or same-day crowns. CEREC is a system that allows us to use computer-aided design (CAD) technology to design your crown and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to fabricate it right in our office for better, faster results.

How long does a CEREC crown last?

CEREC crowns can be expected to last as long as a traditional lab fabricated crown which is an average of 10 to 15 years, but it’s not uncommon for them to last for decades. CEREC crowns are quite strong and durable.

Are CEREC crowns as good as traditional crowns?

With a skilled cosmetic dentist, you can feel confident that your CEREC crown will be just as good as a lab fabricated porcelain crown. We take great care to design a crown that blends in naturally with the rest of your smile, so no one will suspect your tooth isn’t your own. CEREC crowns are also just as strong as lab fabricated porcelain crowns. With a same-day crown, you get all of the benefits of a traditional lab fabricated porcelain crown with none of the downsides.

Is CEREC more expensive?

No, many patients are surprised to learn that CEREC restorations do not cost more than a lab fabricated crown. With only one visit, most patients save money by only having to take off work one day to get their crown.

Are CEREC crowns covered by insurance?

Yes, dental insurance covers CEREC crowns the same way they cover any other dental crown. Prior to scheduling your dental crown procedure, our billing coordinator will provide you with an estimate of what your insurance plan covers and what you’ll need to pay out-of-pocket.

How long does a same-day crown take?

Same-day crowns usually take about two hours from start to finish, which includes time to prepare your tooth for the crown, the fabrication of your crown, and the final placement and bonding. Don’t worry, your mouth is not open the entire time.
